Papeete, located on the main island of Tahiti, is the capital city of French Polynesia. Often French Polynesia is referred to as the Islands of Tahiti. Being a French territory, residents were given citizenship in 1946, then status was changed to an "overseas county" in 2004. 60% of all residents of French Polynesia live in or around Papeete. Looks like a modern, progressive society with normal infrastructure and beautiful residences.
We went on a catamaran / snorkelling excursion.
Interesting that we have only seen one other cruise ship so far in 36 days! Nice not to have crowded ports.
Great pictures, where are you off to next?
